The Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education was the recipient of $20,000 raised at the first annual Casino Night Fund Raiser held in New York City. Organized by Barbara Horton, president of HLB Lighting Design and member of The Nuckolls Fund Board of Directors, the Casino Night benefited the Fund’s Jules Horton International Student Achievement Award. It is presented annually to an outstanding student of lighting design at the Fund’s annual luncheon held during Lightfair International.

Staged in the Zumtobel showroom, more than 100 lighting designers, manufacturers, representatives, architects, and interior designers participated in blackjack, craps, roulette and other games, and bid on raffle prizes. Sponsors of the event included Philips Lightolier, Lutron, Leucos, The Dulanski Group, International Lights, Enterprise Lighting Sales, Specialty Lighting, Stan Deutsch Associates, Hayden McKay, O’Blaney & Rinker Associates, HLB Lighting, Axis, Spectrum, Lite Makers and Zumtobel.

The Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education, named in honor of the late lighting designer and educator James L. Nuckolls, has awarded $695,000 over the past 21 years to support the development and expansion of lighting education programs at colleges and universities in the U.S. and Canada. The Fund receives its support through generous contributions from companies and professionals representing all branches of the lighting community. Nuckolls Fund president Jeffrey A. Milham, who has headed the organization since its inception, has guided its growth to become a major funding source for the advancement of lighting education.
